2012 Fall Picnic

Mark your calendars. We are having our dojo picnic to celebrate the arrival of Fall and relief from the heat we endured this Summer.
As our Aikido family is growing it will be nice to know each other including your family outside of the mat environment.
Here is the picnic information:
Date: Sunday October 7, from 1-5pm
Location: Gazebo at Richardson’s Breckenridge Park
Click for Google Map

You are welcome to bring and share some of your best and typical dishes if you want to. No obligation, though.
There is a lot of space for the kids to run and play. Bring their balls, rollerblades, skateboards, etc.

Please, RSVP indicating how many persons will come with you. It will help us determining the quantity of food needed for this picnic. You may email me (Sidney) at planoaikido@gmail.com, or use our online system to register for the event using this link.

Don’t hesitate to contact me or any board member (Mark, Shawn, Bob and Dave) for any questions and suggestions.

Btw, we welcome volunteers to help coordinating the picnic.

I am eager to see you and your family at the picnic.

Kind regards,
Sidney Shiba.

Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fund

From the USAF:

The Aikikai Foundation has established a fund to accept donations that they will then forward to the Japanese Red Cross. The USAF is collecting donations to forward to the Aikikai to help support the many people in need. We hope that by giving through the aikido community, you will understand your personal connection to this sad and overwhelming situation.

Aikido on CNN.com

Everyone that practices Aikido understands how it effects and enriches the rest of their lives. I have had the amazing opportunity to share how Aikido has helped me balance my self and my life in a CNN.COM/Living article. Tricia Escobedo of Peachtree Aikikai made it happen and Mary Fuller influenced my story with her writing expertise. I thank both of them sincerely. This articles was a group effort from three accomplished women, in Aikido and professionally. The report is an expression of our shared experience. Please enjoy it.

In addition, in conjuction with Kidvision VPK TV in Florida, I have put together a televised field trip to Florida Aikikai demonstrating “The Educational Benefits of Aikido For Children.” This is a wonderful program I have been working on, and this link might help educate potential students at your dojo on why aikido is such a great martial art for kids.
